Not every large project is one we run from start to finish. On big commercial builds, we’re often
brought in as the glass-and-door specialist working alongside a general contractor —
handling the storefront, doors, and hardware while the GC manages the overall job. Being the
subcontractor a GC can actually count on is its own kind of craft, and it’s work we take seriously.
A recent project at a commercial facility in Spartanburg, South Carolina, is a good example.

The Project

We supplied and installed the full glazing and door scope for the facility: a complete YKK
aluminum storefront system in black on both the interior and exterior elevations, plus hollow
metal frames with pre-finished solid core wood doors and Grade 1 brushed nickel
hardware throughout. It’s a clean, durable, professional package built for a working commercial
building.

Storefront, Inside and Out

Most people picture a storefront as just the front entrance, but aluminum storefront systems do a
lot of work inside a building too — glazed walls and partitions that bring daylight deeper into the
floor plan, separate spaces without closing them off, and give interiors a crisp, modern feel. On
this project the YKK system ran on both interior and exterior elevations, and we specified it in
black for a sharp, contemporary look that ties the inside and outside together.

Solid Core Wood Doors in Hollow Metal Frames

For the doors, we paired hollow metal frames with pre-finished solid core wood doors — a
combination you’ll find all over quality commercial construction. The steel frame delivers the
durability and security a commercial opening needs, while the solid core wood door feels
substantial, dampens sound, and gives interiors a warmer, more finished look than a metal door.
Topped with Grade 1 brushed nickel hardware — the highest commercial grade — these

openings are built to look good and last.

Built Around the Contractor’s Schedule

Large jobs live and die by coordination. This one was phased across multiple mobilizations —
delivering frames ahead for others to set, then returning to install the aluminum and door slabs,
and finally the glazing and hardware — all sequenced to fit the general contractor’s timeline. That
kind of planning is what lets us take on commercial work well beyond Hickory, including across
the line into upstate South Carolina, without the wheels coming off the schedule.
